About the work
A broad, round-shouldered vessel, its surface flashed orange and grey, with a heavy fall of ash glaze on one shoulder.
Condition
Excellent.
Provenance
Acquired from the artist.
The artist
Juma throws stoneware vessels and fires them in a wood kiln she built near Kilifi, where the ash from three days of firing settles on the shoulders of the pots and runs into glaze. Her tall bottles and wide bowls carry the marks of where they sat in the kiln, and no two come out alike.
