A spice trader stands in front of the turquoise wall of her stall in Kariakoo, hands folded, in a headscarf the colour of turmeric. Kileo photographs every sitter in the place they work and lets them decide how to stand.
Condition
Excellent. Mounted on aluminium.
Provenance
Acquired from the artist by the present owner, 2023.
The artist
Kileo photographs the traders of Dar es Salaam's markets in front of their own painted shop walls, in full colour and full daylight. Each sitter chooses how they stand. The portraits are printed large, in editions of five.
