About the work
Black and blue plastic water tanks crowd a rooftop in Eastleigh, with a line of washing and the corrugated roofs beyond. Drawn on the roof itself in an afternoon, with a quick pen line under pale, open washes and much of the paper left bare.
Condition
Excellent.
Provenance
Acquired from the artist by the present owner, 2024.
The artist
Kariuki paints Nairobi's rooftops in watercolour: water tanks, satellite dishes, washing lines and the corrugated iron between them. She works in pale, open washes, leaving much of the paper bare, and paints from the roofs themselves with permission from caretakers across Eastleigh and South B.
