About the work

A wide pendant shade woven in natural sisal on a brass frame, with a brass ceiling cup and braided cable. Lit, the weave throws a soft pattern on the ceiling.

Excellent. Rewired by the makers; supplied with a 1.5 m cable.

Provenance

Acquired from the makers, 2024.

The artist

Mwanga Works makes lamps from woven sisal, brass and blackened steel in a workshop off Kirinyaga Road. The weaving is done by a cooperative in Machakos, the metalwork in Nairobi, and every shade is woven to fit its frame.
